MILLER LAYS OUT RESULTS AND PLATFORM AT FLIGHT RADIO DEBATE

Covering topics that ranged from economic development to housing to infrastructure, Freeport
Mayor Jodi Miller participated in Freeport’s Flight Radio WQJT’s live radio debate on Tuesday
night.
Hosted by Flight Radio personalities Michelle Griggs and Zandra Bright, the 90-minute
discussion included a wide range of topics that allowed Mayor Miller to showcase the progress
that has been made over her eight-year tenure as Freeport’s mayor and her vision for the
community’s future.
The redevelopment of the Meadow Shopping Center and the turnaround of the Lincoln Mall
were discussed as recent economic development successes, while successes in restaffing and
restructuring the Freeport Police Department to add a Gang Detective and School Resource
Officer, as well as a Detective, Special Victims, and K-9 units were talked about as recent moves
that are improving public safety in Freeport.
On the topic of housing and neighborhood redevelopment, Mayor Miller talked about the city’s
aggressive code enforcement and blight reduction strategies and how the city’s participation in
the Northern Illinois Land Bank Authority could help the community with its strategy to save
and redevelop houses.
The two-term mayor talked about the city’s partnerships with community organizations—like
High Hope Freeport and YIELD who work with at-risk youths to reduce gun and gang violence
and provide employment mentorships—as a strategy to improve youth engagement in
Freeport.
Mayor Miller showcased the city’s success in replacing lead water service lines throughout all of
Freeport and the drilling of a new deep water well for higher quality and safer water.
“My goal is to always improve the quality of life for all our residents,” said Mayor Miller.
The Freeport mayoral election will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
